The right ingredients for your fermentation at home
Would you like to ferment kombucha yourself at home?
You only need 5 simple ingredients to make it . These ingredients can be varied and interchanged depending on your taste and personal preferences. Basically, we recommend that you only use organic ingredients for your Kombucha and not to feed your Scoby unnecessarily with possible harmful substances.
To make kombucha you need:
- 1 Large glass jar with a wide opening (approx. 1 - 2 liters volume) - rinsed well with e.g. vinegar and without washing-up liquid!
- 1 Scoby “Kombucha Mushroom”
- Tea – e.g. green tea, black tea, white tea (without flavourings/artificial additives)
- cane sugar
- Water – preferably filtered
- Starter liquid or finished very acidic kombucha with a neutral taste as a starter liquid
- 1 breathable clean drape
Where can I get a Scoby from?
You can easily buy your Scoby – Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast – online or if you are lucky enough to have another Kombucha lover give you a mushroom tea. Normally the starter fluid is included with most suppliers.
